The SDSU baseball team has gotten off to a sluggish start, but they are starting to turn it around after going 2-1 over the weekend against Tarleton State.
The Jacks now sit with a record of 3-5 after a 1-4 start to the season.
GAME 1
The start of the trip to Stephenville, Texas, didn’t go great as the first of the three games ended with the Jacks taking a 9-2 loss to the Texans on Friday, Feb. 20.
After the first three innings, the Jacks found themselves down 3-0 but SDSU finally got on the board in the top of the fourth when sophomore Dayton Franke hit an RBI single to put the score at 3-1.
The Jackrabbits would inch closer in the next inning when sophomore Owen Siegert hit an RBI single to bring in Luke Wroblewski to bring the score to 3-2.
Unfortunately for the Jacks, this was the last score of the game for them and the Texans scored six unanswered runs to take a 9-2 win.
GAME 2
The second game had a better outcome for the Jackrabbits as they got a 6-2 win the following day.
After a scoreless first and second inning, the Jacks would draw first blood with a four-run inning in the third.
Tarleton State responded with a single run in the bottom of the third, but it wouldn’t be enough to swing the momentum as SDSU would go on to score two more runs after the third inning while holding the Texans to just one run.
GAME 3
The Jackrabbits would keep the momentum from the previous game rolling into Sunday as they got another win, this time 5-1.
Through the first five inning SDSU would lead 1-0 with the only score coming in the second inning after sophomore brady brown was hit by a pitch while the bases were loaded.
At the top of the sixth, the Jacks extended their lead when Siegert hit an RBI double to put SDSU up 2-0.
Later in the inning, Siegert would come in to put the Jacks up 3-0 after the sophomore Luke Luskey hit an RBI single.
Tarleton State would get their first and only run on the board in the seventh before the Jacks would put two more runs up in the eighth and go on to win 5-1.
CENTRAL ARKANSAS
The Jacks will now travel to Conway, Arkansas, to play the Central Arkansas Bears three times starting Feb. 27. The following games will be played Saturday, Feb. 28 and Sunday, March 1.
The Bears are currently 5-4 on the season and will return home motivated after a 14-3 loss to Oklahoma State in Stillwater.
Junior Zeb Allen leads the team in home runs with three. Allen has also totaled eight RBIs and 12 hits on the season.
Redshirt sophomore Jack Runsick has a team-leading 13 RBIS on nine hits. Three of those hits are doubles, one is a triple and one is a home run.
The first game of the three-game series is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday.
