Former South Dakota State University equestrian coach Kamerra Brown has been indicted on a felony count of grand theft, alleging she used university and taxpayer resources for personal use.
Brown, 38, is accused of using SDSU resources to pay for veterinary bills and boarding for her horses for about a year, according to a news release from South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley.
Mike Lockrem, a spokesperson for SDSU, said the university does not comment on pending investigations or litigation. He also said there are two assistant coaches in charge of the program until a new head coach can be named.
Brown was named head coach of the SDSU equestrian team for the 2024-2025 season. She was previously a graduate assistant with the Jackrabbits from 2010 to 2014, according to her bio on SDSU athletics’ website.
She faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison if convicted.
The case is being investigated and prosecuted by the Public Integrity Unit of the attorney general’s office.
