Rajitha Lamahewa, an electronic engineering major, passed away Monday from Leukemia.

Lamahewa was a vibrant part of the Sri Lankan Student Association, SDSU’s international community and campus community.

“He had a smile that can light up the world, he had a friendly personality helping his fellow community assistants, new International students and his loving colleagues at work in university,” said Sri Lankan Students Association about Lamahewa.

The SDState Sri Lankan Students Association created a GoFundMe page to support the struggles of cancer patients in Sri Lanka in memory of Lamahewa through the Apeksha Cancer Hospital Maharagama in Sri Lanka.

“Times like these remind us all of how short life can be. I just want to encourage you all to live each day to the fullest and take the opportunity to reach out to your friends and family to let them know how much you care,” said Greg Wymer, director of international students and scholars, in a Facebook post.

The GoFundMe fundraiser has a goal of $10,000. Find the page here.
