The American Indian Science and Engineering Society is having a winter clothing drive to help families in the Alaska area and Pine Ridge Reservation.
They are looking for warm and insulated clothing like coats, hats, gloves and face coverings. Donations can be dropped off at the American Indian Student Center on the SDSU campus.
The aid will help children who were displaced from the Alaskan villages Kipnuk and Kwigillingok that were recently devastated by Typhoon Halung.
According to Carie Green, who has contacts with the Lower Kuskokwim School District in Bethel, Alaska, about 150 of the displaced children have transitioned to schools in Bethel, Alaska.
Savanah Crowe, the AISES president, said this clothing drive is important for outreach in the community.
Donations for Alaskan families will close Nov. 6. The deadline for donations going to the Pine Ridge Reservation is November 13.
