The South Dakota State hockey team opened up the home portion of its schedule, sweeping North Dakota in a two-game series.
Game 1: SDSU — 5, UND — 0
The Jackrabbits jumped out to a lead and never looked back as they took care of North Dakota 5-0 in the home opener on Friday.
Trent Anfinson scored a goal in the 1st period and Jack Merritt added one in the 2nd. The goal opened up for SDSU in the 3rd with Zach Struck, Mason Schramm and Jacob Kahle each scoring to put away the win.
The Fighting Hawks committed 5 penalties, but none of the Jackrabbit goals were scored on a power play.
Game 2: SDSU — 10, UND — 2
The two teams were back at it the next afternoon, with SDSU notching a win off an explosive offensive performance.
The Jacks led 4-1 after the 1st period after Owen Schneider, Riley Linstad — who scored two — and Dawson Wirth found the back of the net in the frame.
The Fighting Hawks would score another in the second, but the Jacks took an 8-2 lead into the final period off another goal from Schneider, one from David Brink and two from Zach Struck.
The Jackrabbits added onto their score after Struck scored again and Maxwell Mohr rounded things out.
SDSU got two power plays off of UND penalties, scoring on one of them. The names of the goal scorers for UND are not available.

The Jacks will continue their homestand, which will last through the month and into November, welcoming Minnesota-Duluth’s club team to Larson Ice Center.
Puck drop on Friday will be at 7 p.m. while Saturday’s game will begin at 3 p.m.
