South Dakota State University alumnus Jim Woster was awarded the Presidential Medallion by President Barry Dunn during the 58th annual Beef Bowl game against Drake on Sept. 13.
The Presidential Medallion, the university’s highest honor, is given to select individuals who have contributed to the advancement and benefit of the university, according to a news release.
Woster, a 1962 animal science graduate, has been a driving force behind scholarships, academic programs and community initiatives.
“Jim has made a tremendous impact through his unwavering support of South Dakota State University, and the Jackrabbits community is all the better for it,” Dunn said in the release. “Jim’s tireless commitment has benefited all students, faculty and staff of SDSU.”
Woster, a native of Reliance, spent his life advocating for agriculture in South Dakota. He launched a 30-year career at the Sioux Falls Stockyards, where he became one of the most trusted voices in the region’s agriculture community.
His reputation led to a long-running commodity report on KELO-TV, reaching viewers across the region. A South Dakota Hall of Fame inductee, Woster has also served on numerous boards and contributed to events throughout the state.
