A South Dakota State University golfer tied the NCAA single-round record Sunday during the second round of SDSU’s season opener at the Island Resort Intercollegiate.
Senior Tyler Seeling posted three eagles in five holes and added seven birdies to finish with a 12-under-par 60 in his second round at Sage Run Golf Club in Harris, Mich.
According to an SDSU Athletics release, which cites a Golfweek article written by Cameron Jourdan, Seeling is the 21st player in college golf history — men’s or women’s — to accomplish a 60-stroke round.
The mark is the best in program history by five strokes, breaking his own record of 65, which he recorded at the Summit League Championships last season.
SDSU posted an 853 (-11) team score, finishing in 10th place out of 12 teams. Seeling finished 11th overall, ending the weekend at 10-under-par. Ty Adkins also finished under par, tying for 40th place. Bryson Mercier tied for 58th, Jacob Wilson tied for 66th and Parker Brock tied for 70th.
SDSU also had five individual competitors. Jake Olson and Drew Teeter tied for 47th place. Caleb Kern and Jack Randall tied for 70th, and Hayden Scott finished 80th.
West Virginia’s Ryan Leach won the individual medal, finishing 17-under-par.
The Jackrabbits will travel to the Wildcats Invitational, hosted by Kansas State, Sept. 8-9 at Colbert Hills Golf Club in Manhattan, Kan.
