South Dakota State soccer kicked off their season ahead of the new school year.
The Jackrabbits currently possess a 2-1-1 record, tied for fourth in the Summit League with South Dakota. Their season began with a pair of exhibition games: a scoreless tie versus Nebraska and an 11-0 shutout against Iowa Lakes Community College. Their first official game of the season was a 1-1 tie versus Missouri on Aug. 14, followed by a 1-0 loss to Kansas on Aug. 17. SDSU then shut out Southwest Minnesota State on Aug. 22, scoring seven goals en route to their first victory of the season at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings. The team is currently playing in the University of Hawaii Tournament, where in their first game they defeated Hawaii Pacific on Monday in a 2-0 shutout.
In the two shutout victories, freshman Deizha Jacinto scored three goals, one of those against Hawaii Pacific in her hometown of Waipahu. Five other Jackrabbits each scored a goal in the SMSU game.
California Baptist
SDSU continues their Hawaii play with a game against California Baptist this week. The Lancers are 2-2 entering this contest, defeating CSU Bakersfield and CSU Northridge while losing to No. 5 ranked USC and UC Santa Barbara.
Junior student Jessica Ramirez and senior Kaylee Hauck have each scored a goal in the young season, while Ramirez and junior Ava Westlund have the most shots with five a piece. Westlund leads the Lancers in shots on goal with three, followed by Ramirez with two. Senior Mikayla O’Brien has started three games as the goalkeeper and allowed six goals. Sophomore Rebecca Winton in her lone start this season kept the back of the net empty.
Out of six schools that take part in the Western Athletic Conference for soccer, CBU ranks third ahead of Utah Valley and behind Tarleton State.

Northern Arizona
SDSU will wrap up their three-game Hawaii stint with a match against Northern Arizona this weekend. The Lumberjacks are 1-1-1, having defeated Embry-Riddle Arizona, tied with UC San Diego in a scoreless contest, and lost to Nevada.
Four NAU players have scored a goal this season. Junior student Micala Boex leads the team in points with three, having been credited with an assist. She also has the most shots at 14. Freshman Kaylee Muniz leads in shots on goal with 6. The goalkeeping tandem of Reece Reichwald and Lexi Saveski made nine saves this season while allowing three goals. Saveski was credited with the win over Embry-Riddle Arizona.
Out of nine schools in the Big Sky Conference for soccer, Northern Arizona ranks sixth ahead of Portland State and behind Montana.
The game is scheduled for 5 p.m. local on Sunday. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
