The Jackrabbit women’s basketball team took down Oral Roberts 84-68 in the Summit League championship game.
Three members of the all-tournament team—Paige Meyer, Brooklyn Meyer, and Haleigh Timmer—contributed to the dominant victory. Paige Meyer was also awarded the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
“Paige is special in so many ways,” SDSU Head Coach Aaron Johnston said. “She’s overcome injuries; she’s playing through a couple of different injuries right now that still limit her more than people would know. She just impacts games in a way that is hard to describe.”
She had 26 points, five rebounds and nine assists while shooting 8-for-14 from the field and going 4-for-6 on 3’s.
Timmer set the pace quickly for the Jacks as she scored all eight Jackrabbit points in the first two minutes of the game.
The redshirt junior finished the first quarter with 10 of SDSU’s 19 points.
“It felt good,” Timmer said. “It’s fun to represent a great program like this and do it with these people.”
After being down 19-10 going in the second quarter, Oral Roberts responded with a 15-2 run courtesy of Taleyah Jones and Jalei Oglesby.
Jones finished the game with 17 points, which was tied with Emily Robinson for the team-high, while Oglesby tallied 11.
Both teams went back and forth before SDSU ended the quarter on a 6-2 run, with scores from Paige Meyer, Brooklyn Meyer and Madison Mathiowetz. This boosted the Jacks to a 46-36 lead going into halftime.
Mathiowetz finished the game with 20 points and shot 50% from beyond the arc and overall.
The Jackrabbits maintained their lead through nearly five minutes of action in the third before Robinson and company fired back on an 8-0 run to keep Oral Roberts in the game.
SDSU pulled away in the fourth quarter, outscoring ORU 19-13.
