SDSU took down Cal Baptist and Air Force Falcons over the weekend in an impressive 38-3 showing in both meets.
“Good weekend,” said Damion Hahn in his weekly press conference. “Come away with two wins but again, it’s about their performance and how they wrestled and I thought that was good.”
After the two duals, the Jackrabbits move to 10-3 on the year and 2-1 in the Big 12 conference.
Cal Baptist
Tanner Jordan picked up a pin at 1:30 over Kainoa Medina in the first match on Thursday followed by Derrick Cardinal beating Hunter Leake by decision at 8-2.
Julian Tagg picked up a tech fall against Brady Hoshino 15-0.
Cobe Siebrecht beat Darren Green of CBU by decision with a final score of 8-2 while Marcus Espinoza-Owens won by major decision at 14-4 against Daniel Manibog.
Cade DeVos pulled in the second pin of the night against David Alonso at 2:30. Bennett Berge took a win over Nathan Hass at 15-4.
At 197 pounds, Thomas Dineen finished by major decision over Eli Sheeren with a final 15-2 while Luke Rasmussen capped off the night with a 10-5 victory over Tristan Kemp.
SDSU’s sole loss of the dual was at 149 pounds when Avery Allen lost to Paul Kelly of California Baptist 4-1.
Air Force
The Jackrabbits swept through the dual and only lost in one weight class at 197 pounds.
Throughout the dual, four South Dakota State wrestlers won by tech fall.
No. 6 Berge beat Gage Musser 19-4 at 184, No. 11 DeVos won over Jack Ganos 26-8 at 174, Iowa transfer No. 20 Siebrecht beat Joshua Palacio 19-3 at 157 pounds and Espinoza-Owens topped EJ Beloncik 24-8 in the 165-pound weight class.
No. 15 Jordan was among four South Dakota State wrestlers to not let their opponent score. In Jordan’s match against Air Force’s Bubba Wright, Jordan scored all but a reversal in the third period, beating Wright 8-0 in the 125-pound weight class.
At 133, No. 27 Cardinal won his match against Gavin Caprella by decision with a final 4-0 finish.
No. 24 Tagg finished with the same score at the match before, finishing Carter Nogle by decision in the 141-pound weight class.
Rasmussen, the No. 28 ranked wrestler in the 285-pound weight class finished the meet with a 9-0 major decision victory over Antonio Ramos.
At 149 pounds, Colin Dupill made the start and finished the match with a major decision win over Falcon wrestler Alec Viduya. Dupill and Viduya’s match ended with a score of 15-3.
South Dakota State will be back in First Bank & Trust Arena with four of their next duals at home. On Jan. 31, the Jacks will host Utah Valley, Wyoming on Feb. 1, Northern Colorado on Feb. 7 and to cap off the stretch hosting Iowa State on Feb. 14.
