Jacks beat Ohio, advance to second round of WNIT

The SDSU Women’s basketball team was back in action for the WNIT as they defeated Ohio 87-57 in the first round of the tournament.

Haleigh Timmer had a career night as she scored 24 points to lead all players. Timmer shot 8-11 from the field and 4-5 from three-point range. She also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists.

Timmer was joined in double figures by Paiton Burckhard with 16, Tori Nelson with 15 and Kallie Theisen and Myah Selland each chipped in 10. Selland also posted her first double-double of the year as she snagged 12 rebounds.

The Jackrabbits jumped out to a 22-14 lead after one quarter of play as they have all season. Shooting 56% from the field to start benefitted the Jacks and it carried over as they took a 38-26 lead at the half.

They started on a 5-0 run to start the second half and leading by 17 and never looked back. The Jacks went on to outscore the Bobcats 49-31 Tin the final 20 minutes of the game.

SDSU outrebounded Ohio 50-31 and 33-16 on defensive rebounds. The Jacks also had a 23-5 assist advantage.

They also outshot the Bobcats 52% to 34% from the field. The Jacks shot 32% from the 3-point line while Ohio shot only 13% from 3.

SDSU will host Minnesota Sunday afternoon at Frost Arena in the second round of the WNIT.
