Brief: Soccer tears through early Summit League schedule

Over the past month, the South Dakota State women’s soccer team has been on quite a run.

The Jacks are currently on a program-record nine-game shutout streak. Of those nine, three were against Summit League opponents. SDSU earned a 3-0 victory over North Dakota in Brookings Oct. 6, and downed Oral Roberts and Omaha on the road Oct. 10 and 13, respectively.

Senior goalkeeper Maggie Smither continues to build on her Summit League career shutouts record, now claiming 29 clean sheets. With one more shutout, Smither will tie the single-season record for SDSU goalkeepers.

Freshman Maya Hansen also continues to impress, as the young forward has two goals in three conference games. Hansen has five goals for the season, second-most on the team.

Sitting at 11-3 on the season, 3-0 in Summit play, SDSU prepares for a three-game homestand over the next week.

SDSU hosts Western Illinois on Oct. 18, Purdue Fort Wayne Oct. 20 and North Dakota State Oct. 24.
