Kent Foss selected for the 2002 Summer Music Institute in Washington

Kent Foss, is an SDSU music student and this year, he has been selected for the prestigious 2002 Summer Music Institute of the National Symphony Orchestra of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
The Summer Music Institute is a three week extension of the National Symphony Orchestra American Residencies program through an initiative of the NSO National Trustees. Serious music students get the opportunity to have private lesson taught by a member of the NSO, have chamber coaching performances of the NSO musicians, attend seminars and classes,and attend selected rehearsals and performances of the NSO. The students also get the chance to participate in the NSO Summer Music Institute Orchestra, have other opportunities to perform in the D.C. metropolitan area and have exposure to internationally renowned soloists, conductors and musicians.
The students that received this honor will also get to visit the historic landmarks and museums of D.C. as well as play in the John F. Kennedy Center for the performing Arts. Air transportation is provided for the students to Washington. Housing, meals and local transportation will also be taken care of during their stay at the nation’s capital.
Foss beat out 46 other applicants for one of six available spots here in South Dakota. He was the only wind player chosen and is a sophomore trumpet student of John Colson at South Dakota State University. Foss graduated from Rapid City Central High School.
