BROOKINGS, S.D. — South Dakota State and Nebraska have reached an agreement to meet again in football during the 2013 season.

“Few, if any, experiences for our student-athletes can match the chance to play in the atmosphere that Nebraska provides,” SDSU Athletic Director Justin Sell said. “We appreciate the ability to once again play on a national stage against one of the most storied programs in college football.”

The game is scheduled for Sept. 21, 2013, at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Neb.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to again play the University of Nebraska. The goal, in any football game, is to play your very best football — 60 student-athletes doing their best. To compete against Nebraska we will again be pushed to our limit to accomplish that goal,” SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier said. “It is also exciting to play a great program like Nebraska, which allows our great Jackrabbit fans a chance to attend the game. Our game in 2010 was a special experience for all those in attendance; the goal is an even better experience in 2013.”

SDSU and Nebraska met during the 2010 season in Lincoln, with the Cornhuskers recording a hard-fought 17-3 victory. The two programs have met one other time, with Nebraska winning a 58-7 decision in 1963.

“I want to thank our fans for helping us get a Nebraska football game scheduled for the second time in four years,” said Rob Peterson, senior associate athletic director and sport supervisor for Jackrabbit football. “The way our fans attended the last game spoke volumes to the Cornhuskers that this is a game that benefits both programs. Very few other FCS fans travel the way the Jacks do.”

The Jackrabbits now have games against regional Football Bowl Subdivision teams scheduled through 2015. Opponents will alternate between Big Ten and Big 12 foes, with SDSU scheduled to travel to Illinois this season, Kansas in 2012, Nebraska in 2013, Missouri in 2014 and Minnesota in 2015.

SDSU begins fall camp next week and is scheduled to open the 2011 season Sept. 3 by hosting Southern Utah in the 16th Annual Cereal Bowl at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium.
