The Student Discount Club is entering its fourth year. Students can take advantage of the club by showing their ID at participating retailers. 25 businesses are participating this year with discounts ranging from 50 percent off meals at Buffalo Wild Wings Sunday nights from 9 p.m. to midnight, to one dollar off the lunch buffet at George’s Pizza (excluding Sundays).

In the past the Student Discount Club gave out cards to inform students of the different businesses involved. This year the Students’ Association decided to forego printing cards both to save money and also because they found that most students were not using them.

A full list of participating businesses and their discounts can be found on SA’s Facebook page and website. SA will also be tweeting updates.

Some of the ideas for the club are still evolving.

“We are hoping to place stickers similar to the Hobo Dough ones on the front of businesses,” said SA programming and public relations chair Shannon LaJoie. The discounts can make haircuts, oil changes, coffee and food more affordable for students.

In the four years that SA has partnered with local businesses, the largest problem has been informing students of the discounts available to them. SA hopes that, by posting the list on its website and linking it on social media, students will stay informed without the waste created by physical cards.

“We were finding piles of the cards in the garbage. It just wasn’t worth it anymore,” LaJoie said.
