SD turkey production pegged at 4.6 million birds

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — South Dakota producers are expected to raise 4.6 million turkeys this year, up 5 percent from last year.
The Agriculture Department estimate is based on a September survey in major turkey-producing states.
The number of turkeys expected to be raised nationally is 254 million, up 2 percent over the year.
