BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota Department of Transportation advises motorists that reconstruction of the southbound lanes of Interstate 29 through Brookings will begin on Monday, April 22, weather permitting.

The southbound lanes of I-29 from about six miles north of Brookings to 10 miles south of Brookings will be closed during the work, and traffic will be redirected to the northbound lanes.

Traffic will be maintained head-to-head on the northbound lanes with a 12-foot-width restriction. Over-width vehicles will be detoured using Highway 34 and Highway 13.

The prime contractor for the $14.5 million dollar project is PCiRoads from Saint Michael, Minnesota. Bowes Construction, Inc. of Brookings will do pavement removal and grading work; completion is slated for October.
