The Band Perry was formed by Kimberly, Reid and Neil Perry in 2005. Originally singing on small fair stages, the band now sells out concert halls. The Band Perry was originally formed in the Carolinas by Kimberly, the lead singer. It was not until 2008 when they started making connections that gigs and recording started. In 2009, the band signed a recording deal with Republic Nashville. Back in 2010 they released their self-titled album and really made a big name for themselves. 

They kicked off their We Are Pioneers World Tour and have been selling out big venues. Pioneer, their sophomore album, didn’t have a true calling. “We had so many questions about our future, both personally and professionally,” Kimberly said. “You can hear it in the lyrics to the song ‘Pioneer,’ which asks, ‘Where are we going?’ ‘What will become of us?’ After writing those lines, the song became our guiding light throughout the process of recording the album, which is why we chose it as the title track. It’s truly about the last three years of our lives and trusting that the songs we wrote would lead us where we were supposed to go. We also had to let go of fear and trust the boldness that has always informed our creative decisions.”

Their live shows are just as bold as the album. The Band Perry has a certain rock ‘n’ roll edge when they get up on the stage. “We needed songs that could fill large spaces,” Kimberly said. “Our show is very aggressive; there are a lot of electric guitars and hard hitting drums, and the music on Pioneer captures that.” “Playing the new songs has given our live show a new burst of energy and the crowd feels it, too,” Neil said. “They’re as excited to have new music as we are.” 

The Band Perry recently performed in Sioux Falls at the Arena, opening for Rascal Flatts. This is the first time that they will be in Brookings, and many students are excited. Amanda Batzler, junior early childhood education major, is excited for the concert because, “It’s my first concert being 21,” she said. “It’s nice when big things like this come to Brookings because of how small the town is. My boyfriend works at Info [Exchange] so he heard about the band coming and got the tickets for us. I’ve seen The Band Perry in concert before so it’s going to be really fun, also Easton Corbin is pretty attractive.”

The concert will be Friday Feb. 7, at 7:30 p.m., at the Swiftel Center in Brookings with special guests Easton Corbin and Lindsey Ell.
