ESTERO, Fla. – Make it two straight wins and the 2018 Gulf Showcase consolation title for the South Dakota State men’s basketball team who defeated the Colorado State Rams 78-65.
The win marked the Jack’s second straight after defeating UTSA, which snapped a two-game skid where the Jacks lost to Florida Gulf Coast and Tulane.
“Like I said, losing to FGCU and Tulane really just helped us grow as a team,” David Jenkins Jr. said in a post-game interview.
For the Jacks (5-2), it was that man, David Jenkins, Jr., who led the way with 32 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Mike Daum scored a season-low 11 points on four field goals. Against UTSA on Tuesday, Nov. 20, Daum became the South Dakota State career scoring record holder.
“We knew that this coming into the year,” Jenkins said. “Different guys are going to have different nights.”
Not having its leading scorer didn’t stop the Jacks.
Redshirt freshman Ryan Krueger had 16 points and connected on four 3-pointers.
“[I] felt like It was Ryan’s day, and he stepped up for us,” Otzelberger said. “It was awesome.”
As a team, the Jackrabbits out-rebounded the Rams by 10, holding a 39-29 advantage. South Dakota State had a 47 field-goal percentage.
Up next, the Jackrabbits will host the Kansas City Roos on at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 28 at Frost Arena.
