Senators held their first meeting of the semester and swore in new senators.
Open Forum
The National Association for Music Educators (NAfME) members addressed the Senate and were approved to be an official club Monday night.
The organization was made for music education majors and Kevin Kessler, director of athletic bands, is the adviser for the club.
Guests who are educators in the field will be brought in to speak to club members.
“It seems like a great way to further their professional pursuits,” said senator Madeline Brink.
Music education majors who want to join are required to become a member of the national association of NAfME, with a fee of $40.

Committee and Staff Reports
Senator Oscar Garcia said that the third annual MLK Day Marade, a mix of a parade and a march that celebrates Martin Luther King Jr., will happen Jan. 20 at the Dana J. Dykhouse building in Club 71 at 10 a.m.
SDSU Vice President for Student Affairs Michaela Willis, the adviser for SA, explained some issues under the Students’ Association page that has information on Sodexo, including incorrectly listed locations of campus dining and links that send users to websites that do not exist.
“They’re trying to get it resolved pretty quickly…and they are working on getting that addressed,” said Willis.
The university will offer a Bachelor of Science in Health Care System Engineering starting in Fall 2025. Senator Victoria Vazquez said there is also hope for a Bison Studies minor to be implemented by the department of animal science.
New Business
Three new senators were sworn into the Students’ Association after being selected through a number of applicants.
Bentz described the group as “three really exceptional individuals that will fill the vacancies in the Senate.”

There will be no meeting next Monday due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and the next meeting will be Feb. 3.
