South Dakota State Jackrabbits went on the road to face Ball State last Sunday and took them down in their own home. The Jackrabbits defeated the Cardinals in a thrilling game 63-55, making their record 5-2 for the season so far.
The Jacks started the game off hot, ending the first quarter 20-18. During the second quarter, the Jacks seemed to lose their fire as they only scored seven points while the Cardinals scored 15. However, in the 3rd quarter, the Jacks fired back up scoring 16 points while limiting the Cardinals to only three points. The Jacks ended the 4th quarter with 20 points, pushing them over the top with an eight-point win.
Freshman Katie Vasecka was top scorer for the Jacks with a career-high 17 points. Vasecka drained all three of her shots from beyond the arc and went five for eight from the floor.
Haleigh Timmer also reached double-digit points with all 12 coming from the three-point line.
Both Madison Mathiowetz and Brooklyn Meyer ended the night with nine points, while Brooklyn also grabbed six rebounds for the Jacks. Paige Meyer was all over the board with six points, three boards, six assists and three steals.
The Jacks had 14 points in the paint and 16 points off turnovers with 20 of the points coming from the bench. Overall the Jacks made 19-47 shots putting their field goal percentage at 40.4% for this match.
Montana
The Jackrabbits will play their second match of the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge on Saturday against the Grizzlies of Montana. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. in Missoula, Montana.
This season, Mack Konig has been the leading scorer for the Grizzlies, amounting to 78 points, 11.1 per game. Konig has slacked of late from beyond the arc, shooting 17.4% from three. The Canadian junior has racked up 37 assists and 25 turnovers.
Forward Alex Pirog walks into the matchup averaging eight points and 5.7 boards a game. Pirog leads the team in personal fouls with 20 through seven games.
Dani Bartsch and Adria Lincoln have been the specialists from deep for the Lady Grizz. Bartsch is shooting 37.1% from deep while Lincoln is at 41.7%.
