The Gifting for Good event in Brookings is scheduled for Nov. 21-23.
This is a collaboration among local gift shops in the Brookings community and it’s also an opportunity to shop locally and buy unique gifts before the holidays.
Participating gift shops are the Brookings Arts Council, McCrory Gardens, Play Central Toys & Books, South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum and the South Dakota Art Museum.
Michelle Glanzer is the patron services coordinator at the Ag Heritage Museum. She said the museum is a great place to find a gift for anyone. They have all kinds of food, including kuchen and SDSU Meat Lab products, books about South Dakota history and agriculture, products made in South Dakota, and games and puzzles for children.
“We want to let people know that we’re here and we’re open year-round,” Glanzer said. “It’s a nice place to come and visit and bring your friends and family.”
The museum also will have a make-and-take ornament bar during the event.
Megan Stiefvater is a student employee at the Ag Heritage Musuem. She said: “This event is a great way to support small businesses within the community. It’s all about shopping local and seeing all we have to offer.”
Play Central Toys and Books is the gift shop in the Children’s Museum of South Dakota in downtown Brookings. They offer a variety of educational and fun games, toys and books for newborns to teenagers.
Kati Hanson, the director of guest experience and education at Play Central Toys and Books said, “All of the items in our gift shop, we try to have them correlate back to one of our museum exhibits or have them tell a story of what the museum has to offer.”
Each gift shop also will have postcards available to take and get stamped. After stopping and collecting stamps at four out of the five gift shops, customers will be entered into a drawing.
“We love when people come think of us to shop,” Hanson said. “Especially around the holiday season.”
