Scenic Views: Arboretum
The SDSU Arboretum, located on the north side of McCory Gardens, is a hidden gem that offers a tranquil atmosphere that is complemented by nature’s beauty.
Spanning over 45 acres, this space features diverse plant species, including native trees and colorful flowerbeds that change with the seasons and admission is free for students.
Whether you’re wandering through the gardens or finding a quiet bench to enjoy the natural beauty, the Arboretum provides a backdrop for relaxation and inspiration.
“We see many students studying in the arboretum, playing different yard games, riding their bikes on the trails, having picnics and taking fun pictures,” said Sydney Trio, education coordinator and horticulturist at McCrory Gardens.
With its stunning landscapes and inviting picnic areas, the Arboretum is an ideal spot for relaxation, reflection, or even a study session under the shade of a tree. As you explore the Arboretum, you’ll discover the perfect blend of nature and tranquility.
“My favorite part is the Redbud collection in the Arboretum. Redbuds are my favorite tree and every spring, it has pretty bright pink flowers. After it is done flowering, it sends out heart-shaped leaves that turn green in the summer and yellow-red colors in the fall,” said Trio.
The SDSU Arboretum is more than just a beautiful landscape; it’s a hidden part of campus life that encourages relaxation, creativity and connection. With its diverse plant species and serene environment, the Arboretum invites students to take a break from their busy schedules and enjoy nature.
