Senators announce results from the General Activity Fee survey, talk of upcoming Hobo Week and club events.
Committee and Staff Reports
President Trinity Peterson and Vice President Hayden Bentz met with SDSU Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dennis Hedge and announced that the search for a new dean in the College of Natural Sciences is happening again.
“They’re hoping to hire that by December,” Peterson said. “They did have a first pool, but didn’t feel that they had any outstanding applicants to fill that [position] so, they did mention that the interim dean is doing a great job there.”
Peterson also announced the results for the General Activity Fee survey that was sent out to students. There were 4,008 responses, with 85% of students voting yes to reallocation.
“Our goal was three [thousand], so the fact we got four [thousand], I could not be more pleased,” said Peterson.
In December, Peterson will travel to a Board of Regents meeting at Black Hills State University to present to the Board of Regents and wait for their approval of this reallocation of funding.
Bentz encouraged the senate and students to vote for the upcoming elections, with Oct. 21 being the deadline to vote.
The University Program Council announced upcoming events for students including Mulligan Stew Cook-Off on Thursday Oct. 10 at 7 p.m., and Grocery Bingo on Friday Oct. 11 at 6 p.m.
Along with this, Bum Fire will not be outside this year due to a burn ban and will instead be in the Volstorff Ballroom, and Mulligan Stew may be moved inside as well. The Bum Fire will be Oct. 10 at 8 p.m.
“The county of Brookings issued a burn ban last Thursday, so no fires are allowed, just because it’s been so dry,“ Claire Koenecke, the government affairs chair, said. “So, we moved it [to the Volstorff Ballroom].We’re still going to have a band, we’re going to have a cornhole tournament, there’s going to be lots of giveaways, still hot chocolate and snacks, so pretty much the same thing.”
Unfinished Business
The Aunt Flo Project (Resolution 24-3-R) was approved to expand to more restrooms on campus.
“Government Affairs Chair Koenecke and President Peterson have been working on this since last year,” said Finance Chair Grace Peterson. “We started with the Union bathrooms and we have seen a lot of interest in some other buildings and are excited to explore expanding into some additional restrooms.”
Also, Peterson mentioned that Jack’s Cupboard is interested in a partnership with the Aunt Flo Project, and would carry products in their cupboard.
New Business
Resolution 24-5-R was introduced for SA to advocate for more campus safety and security. This resolution will be voted on at the next SA meeting.
