Jumpin’ Jacks Improv Comedy will perform at South Dakota State University on Saturday, Sept. 28, in the Fishback Studio Theatre. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and the show starts at 7 p.m.
Patrick Hybertson, co-owner of Jumpin’ Jacks, said, “our production is most like ‘Whose Line is it Anyway,’ it’s full of good times, good laughs and since we are short form improv, we pull suggestions from the audience making it interactive.”
Jumpin’ Jacks’ audience varies between venues, but for this show they will be geared toward the college students, Hybertson said.
When asked about this event, both Michael Gonda, an Animal Science Professor, and John Dexter, an Agricultural Systems Technology major of Delta Colorado, were not aware that it was happening, but were both interested and said they would go.
The performers include Hybertson, Jacob Womack, Caleb Dirksen, Drew Veurink, and Parker Oleson. Three are SDSU alumni.
Jumpin’ Jacks originated here at SDSU, starting in 2014. After a hiatus the group got back together in 2023.
Students who want to see this kind of production back on campus can contact the University Program Council at [email protected], the Students Association at [email protected] or the Residence Hall Association at [email protected].

As of right now, no other shows have been scheduled. However, Jumpin’ Jacks are working on getting dates scheduled for Dec. 21 at the Country Road Barn in Watertown, and a Jan. 4 gig in Minnesota, according to Hybertson.
“Jumpin’ Jacks Improv is a part-time thing,” Hybertson said. “We all have full-time jobs, we do this because we love it and it’s a good time.”
Gabriel Hertler, a counselor at SDSU who has attended one of their shows, said, “Make time for your mental health, do things that bring you joy, formal support is here.”
“Focus on the moment,” Hertler said. “Making moments for laughter gives us more moments to live.”
