The South Dakota State soccer team currently boasts a 2-2 record so far this season.
After two exhibition matches against Creighton and Jamestown, SDSU opened up their season playing the University of Kansas Jayhawks where they lost 1-2 at Fishback Soccer Park in Brookings, SD.
Midfielder Laney Murdzek scored the sole goal for the Jacks in the match. The senior from Wisconsin tallied up four total shots in the match against the Big 12 opponent.
SDSU bounced back in their second match of the season against Northern Colorado where they won 2-Nil.
“Connection off of the field carries onto the field and we believe the connected team is a powerful team,” said Brock Thompson, head coach of the Jackrabbit soccer team.
Adrianne Agbayani tallied the first goal of the game and in her career in the first half of play. Along with her goal, Agbayani finished with four shots on goal. Graduate student Katherine Jones aided Agbayani with the assist on the play.
Mia Bosch scored the first goal of her career in their victory over Northern Colorado as well.
Nearing the 52nd minute of action, Bosch brought the score up to 2-Nil, where it stayed for the remainder of the match.
The Jacks went on to lose their next match by a goal against Colorado College last Thursday.
The Lone goal was scored in the second half of the match in the 66th minute of action.
On Sunday, the Jacks showed out with a dominant performance over Mountain West opponent Wyoming.
A 3-Nil victory on the road brought the Jacks back to a neutral 2-2 record on the season with just six more non-conference matches.
SDSU’s first goal of the match came from Hailee Christensen. The former Harrisburg Tiger put her shot in the net before six minutes of action.
25 minutes later, Katelyn Beulke put another ball in the net as the Jacks took a 2-goal lead.
Bosch tallied the final goal of the night with just 10 minutes left to go in the match with an assist from Agbayani to finish the match 3-Nil.
South Dakota State has outscored their opponents 6-3 this season while out shooting their opponents 15.3 to 8.5.
“One of the great things about this team is and we’ve said this for many years we can score goals with a variety of people,” said Thompson. “One of the unique pieces of it is that you see some young players score, which is exciting for us.”
Bosch currently leads the team with two goals on the season with four other Jackrabbits following closely behind with one a piece (Agbayani, Beulke, Christensen and Murdzek).
The South Dakota State Jackrabbits will compete in their next match against Western Illinois today in Macomb, Illinois. Their first of five road matches kicks off at 7 p.m.
