Track and Field
The South Dakota State men’s and women’s track and field teams traveled to Vermillion April 11 to participate in the USD Invite.
Two athletes and one relay team won for the Jacks.
Sophomore Sam Zenner won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.76 seconds and sophomore Micah Mather won the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:20.84, which was a personal best.
The women’s 4×400-meter relay team of senior Savannah Dolezal, sophomore Allison Sebern, senior Vanessa Lane and junior Krista Steele, won their race in 3:50.52.
Senior thrower Colton Bender came in second in the hammer throw. He set a school record with his total distance of 204-3.
On the women’s side, junior Kasey Vollmer came in second in the discus throw with a total distance of 162-10.
What’s next: The teams will head to California. They will compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate April 19 in Long Beach. Then they’ll head to Asuza April 20 to compete in the Brian Clay Invitational. Their last stop will be in Torrance April 21 for the Mount SAC Relays.
Tennis
The Jackrabbit tennis teams both dropped matches April 15. The men fell to Omaha 5-2 and the women lost to 7-0. Both teams have failed to win a match this season.
Senior Marco Paulo Castro won 6-1,6-3 and Alberto Gonzalez Raton won a point for the Jacks due to a forfeit. Castro and Emerson Styles won a doubles match, but Omaha won the other matches and claimed the doubles point.
What’s next: The men will face Omaha April 20, Denver April 21 and Oral Roberts April 22. All matches will be played in Sioux Falls. This was the final match of the season for the women. They finished the year 0-18.
