SA meeting in Brief: 10/21/19

On Monday, Students’ Association senators gathered for their weekly meeting. Here is what you need to know: 

Reaccreditation at SDSU 

During the open forum, Vice Provost of Academic Affairs Mary Kay Helling presented on the upcoming accreditation board that will be visiting South Dakota State University. The Higher Learning Commission will be visiting SDSU Nov. 4 and 5. A student open forum will be held Monday, Nov. 4 from 4 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. in the Lewis and Clark Room of the Student Union. 

Parking Committee Report 

The Parking Committee reported they are looking into the placement and usage of crosswalks on campus. The idea of creating an informational video on how to use crosswalks and the legality of crosswalk use was discussed. 

Transportation Committee Report 

The Transportation Committee reported the Brookings Economic Development Corporation will be joining a partnership between SDSU, BATA and the City of Brookings. According to Senator Amber Alvey, the transportation committee will not be recommending an increase in GAF for the next year. 

First Reading GAF Proposal 

The official first reading of Resolution 19-03-R Support for GAF Strategic Plan with possible action will be taking place in the next meeting. Senators are expected to propose amendments to the resolution at this time. 

The Senate will meet again at 7 p.m., Oct. 28 in the Lewis and Clark Room of the Student Union.
