On-line voting available for up-coming Senate election
March 4, 2002

As the Senate’s year comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every senator, as well as the executive board, for making this past year both successful and rewarding for those involved. As we look back on the year, many of us smile at the accomplishments that the SA has succeeded in, the many people we have had the privilege to meet, the numerous campus events that many of us have participated in and the important decisions that have been challenged to us. Being involved in student government has opened my eyes to the level of involvement students truly do have in making decisions here at SDSU. I think it is an opportunity that everyone should have the chance to be a part of, even if only for one meeting.
On that note, only 18 students turned in petitions for senate seats by the deadline, so that leaves 10 seats open for senators at-large. The process is somewhat different for applying for these positions. Petitions still need to be filled out, but since it is for a seat representing all students, not just a specific college, any student can sign the petition. Students vying for the at-large positions will then appear before the new senate for a short interview to narrow it down to the number of positions open. If the present campaign has sparked your interest in the Students’ Association, or if you were unable to get your petitions signed before, this is a perfect chance to get involved.
As I’m sure you’ve all heard or read at some point in time, SA elections will be on-line this year. This provides all students with the opportunity to vote more conveniently. The times to vote will be March 6 and 7 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., both days. Stations will be set up in the traditional places on campus (the Union, Animal Science, Crothers, and NFA), but will be equipped with computers instead of ballot boxes. I challenge all of you to go out and vote. Take part in choosing the next student leadership at SDSU!
