The SDSU women’s soccer team is looking for a loophole.
Plagued in recent weeks by injuries and penalties, the Jacks are looking for a way out of a six-game losing slump.
The team suffered a pair of those losses to the University of North Dakota and Northern Colorado last weekend on their home turf, and now sit 1-6 in the NCC and 8-8 overall.
The Oct. 19 match-up against Northern Colorado was a tight game, and the only goal came from UNC’s Kalyn Sprehe in the 30th minute.
While the Bears out-shot the Jackrabbits 33-6, goalkeeper Melissa Speiser racked up a commendable 16 saves in the losing effort.
The Jacks fell 4-1 the next afternoon as well, to the University of North Dakota.
UND’s Christine Lapp scored twice in the first half.
Stephanie Pfeiffer struck again for UND in the 39th minute.
Jackrabbit Melissa Speiser, who played goalkeeper for the first half, interjected a point for SDSU with less than 18 minutes left to play, but it was too little too late for the Jacks. Dana Parry sealed the deal for UND two minutes later with the final goal of the game.
UND held a 15-12 shot advantage, while Speiser and Brittany Frazier each had a pair of saves for SDSU.
The Jackrabbits have their next chance to break the losing streak Friday, Oct. 25, when they close out NCC play against Augustana.
