Brookings’ municipal election will find seven citizens competing for the opportunity to serve in one of two city council positions open for reelection.

According to the Brookings City Clerk’s office, three residents are running for the open three-year term, while four are taking a shot at the one-year post on the city’s elected governing body.

In the race for the three-year seat, Zeno W. Wicks, III, who was appointed last fall to fill the position vacated by Keri Weems, is seeking reelection against competition from Tom Bezdichek and Troy Hicks.

Also seeking reelection is Mike McClemans, a current council member running for the one-year term. Bill Davidson, Charles Kuechenmeister and Julie Whaley are looking to unseat the current council member.

The Brookings City Council is made up of six members and the mayor. In addition to Wicks and McClemans, the group includes Samuel Artz, Tom Bozied, Scott Munsterman, Doris Roden and Mayor Virgil Herriott.

Municipal elections, in which citizens will elect the two City Council members as well as a new mayor, will take place Tuesday, April 8.
