The leadership of the Students’ Association Senate was completed with the appointment of a new finance chair last week.
Junior Dustin Wagner, a current senator from the College of Pharmacy, was chosen to fill the position held during the last administration by current at-large Senator Ryan Feist.
Wagner said his original interest in the SA Senate began with a desire to make a difference on campus.
In his year as SA senator, he had the chance to do that, but he said he was ready to make a step up.
“I really saw that while a senator can make a difference, a finance chair … would make even more of a difference, even more of an impact,” he said.
As the finance chair, Wagner will keep an eye on the revenues and expenditures for the student governing body as well as chairing the SA’s two financial appropriations committees.
The finance chair is also a member of the Board of Directors for the Students’ Association.
Wagner, along with President Eric Erickson, Vice President Justin Larson and Administrative Assistant Michael Whitford, makes up the group’s Executive Board.
Wagner said that the key to his job is communication, especially with his fellow SA senators.
“It’s my job to make sure that they keep updated on every financial issue that comes through this office,” he said.
“Presenting it in a way that they can easily understand it is the most important thing.”
SA President Eric Erickson said he’s always been impressed with Wagner’s desire to serve the SA members and the student body at large, pointing out that if Wagner was ever needed to work extra office hours or help another senator, he was available.
“He was really dedicated through this last year of senate,” Erickson said.
“If you needed him any time, he would be there.”
