The SDSU women’s soccer team went unbeaten this past weekend on a road trip to Minnesota as they tied Minnesota-Duluth 0-0 on Saturday and defeated Winona State 3-1 on Sunday.

The Lady Jacks began their road trip by facing a tough Bulldog team on a wet, muddy field, an environment that could be quite intimidating for a young team. SDSU stood up to the challenge, however, as they countered UMD’s advances on the slippery field and kept the game scoreless.

Senior goalkeeper Erin Miller recorded 14 saves against Minnesota-Duluth as SDSU recorded its fourth consecutive shutout. Miller made a key save on a Duluth breakaway during overtime to keep State’s streak alive

“A tie was a good result,” Coach Lang Wedemeyer said. The Bulldogs had defeated SDSU last year.

The Jackrabbits then headed south and took on the Winona State Warriors the next day. The fatigue from traveling and playing an overtime game was apparent in the first half as the home team, still searching for their first win of the season, held SDSU to a 1-1 halftime score.

The Jackrabbit squad then came out in the second half and ended any doubts of victory as they scored two goals and thoroughly dominated the Warriors. Junior midfielder Amy Goodrich scored a goal and contributed an assist as SDSU outshot WSU 13-1 in the second half.

“Dominating the second half was very impressive,” Wedemeyer said.

The Jackrabbits now have a 4-1-1 record for the season. Their unbeaten streak currently stands at five games as the Lady Jacks have outscored their opponents by an 18-3 margin this season.

“I thought it was a good weekend,” Wedemeyer said.

The soccer teams returns to action this weekend as they play host to Wayne State (Neb.) at Fishback Soccer Park. Match time is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.
