Enjoy a Hobo-Free Week

Having fun without Hobo Day shouldn’t be a very difficult thing to do, considering that all fun had during the other 364 days of the year is had without Hobo Day. It is of note that having fun isn’t always the easiest thing to do and trying to find fun while avoiding a major event is twice as hard.
But please, rest assured that life without Hobo Day is not dull and meaningless, and finding fun without it is not impossible. You’re a Jackrabbit. You can do it. You can go anywhere from here!
The first order of business is to do what you can to avoid Hobo Day activities. Although, in the past, I have done this by simply being unaware of what is going on, a more scientific approach would require knowledge of the events and an attempt to plan events of one’s own.
Cavorts and Halloween:
This year Halloween offers a great escape from some of the Hobo Day madness. Cavorts is on Friday night, but so is Halloween. I suggest going to a Halloween party or relying on the old stand-by of trick-or-treating. Who cares if you are 25 years old. Free candy is worth dressing up for.
Parading Sleep:
The easiest way to avoid the Hobo Day Parade is to simply sleep in. I think the parade starts at 9:30 a.m. Saturday.
I, however, wouldn’t know. I sleep until noon on Saturdays if I can which means I miss the parade.
The Avoidance Game:
Okay, the big Hobo Day event that is highly difficult to avoid is the football game. It is very hard to have fun while not going to the football game for two reasons. First of all, it is in the afternoon and most fun things one can escape to are night things. Second, if you live on or near campus the football game becomes straight up annoying because of all the people who flock to it and congest life.
I recommend an attempt at partaking of three of my favorite things in this case. First, food. I love restaurants and there are some good ones in this town. Second, friends. The restaurants that promote the best conversations with friends are sit-down restaurants. Perkins and the Ram Pub are my faves for this. Then after an afternoon lunch I’d hit the movie theatre. In general, I think the best way to have fun during this week is to spend time with friends.
