Live Performance in a Familiar Venue

If you’re looking for some live entertainment this weekend, the Dakota Pub is the place to be. The pub will feature local band Probable Cause.
Lead by Mike Smith, Probable Cause is a five-piece band that consists of Smith on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, John Cotton on bass, Sheila Larson on drums, Coleen Liebsch on keyboard and Rocco Tschetter on lead guitar. The band has been performing together since 1998, and has found its way across South Dakota and Minnesota.
“We’ve played everything from the State Fair, to large street dances in South Dakota and Minnesota,” said Smith.
The band plays a variety of music from every genre, with about 100 songs they could play on any given night. The usual play list only consists of about 50; determined by requests, and crowd reaction.
Unlike some hopeful local bands, Probable Cause isn’t concentrating on becoming famous.
“For the most part, I would say we’re probably mostly focused on continuing to be a regional variety band, getting more exposure that way,”said Smith.
The band has already released a CD titled You Don’t Need a Reason, and has some preliminary talk about another CD.
PC does about four shows a month, with very little practice time due to lack of time and scheduling conflict with the members.
The show starts at 9 p.m. on April 2 and 3 at the pub, with no cover charge. Unfortunately, since it is at a pub, you must be 21 to attend.
The Dakota Pub is having a live act in support of the SDSU rodeo. So if you have an itching for dancing, head on down for a good time.
The Dakota Pub is located in the former location of the Jackalope Lounge at 331 3rd Street, just one-half block west of Main Street.
