I’m pretty convinced that baseball is no longer the national pastime. In fact, I’d argue that the cinema is taking its place.Whether you’d rather watch a movie or a game of baseball, there exists a lovely marriage of the two – the baseball movie. To celebrate this fabulous combination I’ve compiled a list of my all-time favorite baseball movies.
5. A League of Their Own Even though this movie is a bit of a tear-jerker, it taught me an important lesson: “There is no crying in baseball.” I just love tough chicks who can play baseball.
4. Major League Bob Costas narrates this flick, making it not only a great baseball movie but also one of the funniest comedies ever!3. Bull Durham Kevin Costner makes Susan Sarandon (and most of the ladies watching) melt with a line about three-day-long french kisses … and, er … Tim Robbins is in it too.
2. Field of Dreams The magic and mystery in the plotline equal the nostalgia and innocence many people associate with baseball itself. Plus I get another dose of Kevin Costner.
1. The Natural With symbolism ranging from Arthurian legends to Greek mythology and some of the most famous scenes in film history, The Natural has to be at the top of the list. I cry every time I see Robert Redford rounding the bases through a shower of sparks. In fact, I have chills right now just thinking about it.
