Changes have become the note at the Brookings Hy- Veelately. A gas station, Starbucks, health food market and a Chinese restaurant.A 10- pump gas station will soon open in the Hy-Vee parking lot. The exact day the station will open is unknown. Tentatively the station’s hours will be 6 a.m. through 11 p.m. Customers will receive discounted gas if they present a Hy-Vee receipt. The discount will probably start at three cents and will most likely increase said Doug Dell, store director. “There will be a discount … it could change daily,”he said.In May, Starbucks opened in the store. It opens at 6 a.m. until 9 p.m. Manager Karen Anderson said the shop has been very well received. Prices may even be a little cheaper than other stores.A health food market has been added, it features organic and natural foods. “It has taken off better than we ever imagined,” said Dell. “I’ve noticed a lot of products being purchased from the health section,” said Erin Hurly, a four year cashier for Hy-Vee. In addition, Hy-Vee will be adding a Chinese resteraunt. The exact opening date is to be determined. “It will be another alternative for Chinese food, and customers can grocery shop afterwards,” said Hurly.Employees will be moved to different areas of the store to accommodate the additions. New employees will be added as well.
