New editor-in-cheif ready for position
May 1, 2006
Jeremy Fugleberg
Hello, South Dakota State University. I’m Jeremy Fugleberg and I’ll be your Collegian’s editor-in-chief for the 2006-2007 school year.
First, credit where credit is due: My hat goes off to Kristin and her staff. They had a time of it, with everything from a mid-year managing editor switch to the advent of a professional adviser.
Yet each week they persevered into the night – through blood, sweat and tears – to put out the best paper they could.
Not for the money or the glory, and certainly not for the glamour. After all, newspaper journalism isn’t often about that.
Instead, each Collegian of this school year stands as a monument to their desire to hone their craft and serve each of you – the student body. I salute them.
Some of Kristin’s staff are staying on, for which I am deeply grateful. They bring to this newsroom invaluable wisdom and expertise. I will depend on them. Get ready, folks.
Since 1887, The Collegian has represented this university. But next year we’re going to kick it up a notch.
We’re a Division I school, and your newspaper will reflect that – with a renewed focus on the personalities and emotions that define Jackrabbit Athletics.
SDSU is a land-grant university, and the Collegian will reflect that, as well – with more looks at what our rich agricultural program and cutting-edge research give back to the community and the state.
We will be more engaged, a better friend to everyone who attends this university. Got a story? We’re listening. Feel we’re getting the story wrong? Let us have it.
But as a good friend, we will not shy away from calling it as we see it, whether it be actions by student leaders, Brookings public officials or the university administration.
Look for us next year. We will make you laugh, and hopefully make you think. And we won’t rest until we do it well.
