Opinion editor extends invitation to all students to write columns
September 4, 2007
Gay Leclair
I would like to say welcome to all students-those who are returning to and those who are first-time students at South Dakota State University.
My name is Gay LeClair and I am the new editor of the opinion page for The Collegian. Some students may know me, but for those who do not I will tell you a little about myself. I am a non-traditional, part-time student. I am a journalism major specializing in news/editorial. I live in Sioux Falls and commute for classes. I work full time as a nursing assistant at an assisted living facility and am currently seeking part-time weekend employment for extra money. I am a 40 year-old, divorced female with no kids, no pets and no time to spare – sounds like an ad in the personals doesn’t it?
This is my first time working on a school paper, so I am a little nervous. I have some changes for the opinion page that I hope all of you will like. If not, I want to hear your feedback on what you, the reader, would like to see changed or what parts of that page could be improved.
I would also like to take this time to invite one and all to submit opinion articles to me for publication. Articles should be submitted no later than Monday by 3 p.m., and please enclose an address or phone number so that I may contact you. I cannot promise to print all articles submitted to me, but I will read each one and let you know whether your article was accepted or declined and why. Any article that misses the deadline will not be considered for publication.
Once again, welcome to South Dakota State University. I hope that all our students have a wonderful semester and I look forward to reading your articles.
