Newer local band contains people from other projects

Most people that know local music don’t even blink when the word ‘evolve’ is mentioned.
Neither do the guys of Foley.
These guys formed one of the most promising local bands of 2008, possibly due to the fact that they’re all veterans in the local scene (even at their young ages). The band consists of Ryan Harr (vocals, guitar), Phil Mueller (drums and vocals), Sean Albertson (guitar) and Blaine Eilts (bass). This ‘post-grunge/alt-rock’ band formed just half a year ago from Harr’s previous project, 100 Words.
Although Foley lists local legends Billy Music as an influence, they also credit larger, mainstream bands as well.
“One of our biggest influences would have to be the Foo Fighters,” says Mueller, “but we could also include bands such as Breaking Benjamin [and] Coheed and Cambria.”
Foley takes the same outstanding energy level as mainstream bands to the stage.
“Our live shows are powerful and energetic,” says Mueller. “We strive to put on a decent show without sacrificing the quality of the sound. We believe that if our fans are paying $5 at the door, or even more than that, we should feel obligated to give them their money’s worth.”
The guys plan on having an EP released within the next couple months, but as far as long-term goals, the boys are just playing it by ear.
“We are just waiting to see what happens,” says Mueller. “That’s half the beauty of playing music … you never know what’s going to happen.”
You can see Foley playing with Down and Above on Feb. 15 and opening for Red on March 21, both at Nutty’s North at 9 p.m. You can listen to their music at www.myspace.com/foleysd.
