With the amount of personnel involved in conflicts overseas, the military has become an important issue in the media in the last few years. With over 400 veterans on campus, the military plays an important role in our lives.

In order to give thanks to these individuals and others involved in the U.S. Armed Services, the first annual Military Appreciation Day, formerly known as Governor’s Day, will be held on April 25. The Air Force ROTC is coordinating the program this year, which will begin at 1 p.m.

SDSU President David Chicoine will give a speech at the event. There will also be a small awards ceremony for cadets of both the Army and Air Force ROTC and a full military parade, which will be reviewed by Lt. Col. Dana “Pete” Nelson. There will also be an F-16 Fighting Falcon flyover at the beginning of the ceremony.

The event is conducted to honor all military and their families, Cadet Lt. Col. Nita Peterson in the Air Force ROTC said, and to award outstanding cadet achievement.

“There’s not a whole lot of recognition for ROTC around campus,” Cadet Capt. Mike Lang said. “I think it’s something that needs to be done.”

The event will take place at Campus Green, on the east side of the Art Museum.
