Everything a girl needs to accessorize and just cannot live without is available at Lisa King’s new boutique, La-ti-Da.

La-ti-Da Boutique is now open for business on South Main Avenue. The boutique’s target audience is college students and young adults, but they have something for everyone, said King.

“I always felt that you could never find affordable, fun stuff in Brookings,” said King. “So I wanted to offer that to the people of Brookings to have a fun place to come.”

La-ti-Da sells women’s accessories including handbags, wallets, purses, jewelry, hats, scarves and luggage. King has new merchandise come in every Thursday but never orders the same purse twice.

“My policy is that … once one purse comes in, nothing comes back in of the same style,” King said. “Once it’s yours, it’s yours, and you’ll never find someone with the same purse as you at HyVee or on campus.”

The boutique also carries some baby items, such as diaper bags and bibs. All of the baby products are handmade by a friend of King’s and can be ordered to fit.

King said she has lived in Brookings for six years but is originally from Atlanta, Ga. She now lives here with her husband Kevin and her 5-year-old son, Perry. King also runs a home daycare, Kids’ Kingdom, and said that since her son is starting school soon, she was looking for something different. She started working in retail when she was 15 years old and said it is her passion.

“It really is my dream to have my own store,” King said. “Everywhere I went I was looking for a name, and one day it just hit me, La-ti-Da.”

King said that her favorite part about opening a new shop is that she gets to meet new people and offer people things that are fun and exciting.

“Seeing someone leave with a smile on their face about a gift they bought or their own purchase is a great feeling,” said King.

La-ti-Da is open Thursdays and Fridays from 5 to 8 p.m., Saturdays 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 12 to 4 p.m. For more information contact (605) 695-4938.
