The Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA), along with the Native American Club, Chicanos in Action, the Black Student Alliance and the International Relations Club, held a 5k Halloween run for SDSU students and members of the Brookings community on Oct. 25.
“We decided on holding a 5k in recognition of the importance of health and wellness for community members,” Nalo Johnson, program adviser for Multicultural Programs, said.
The event was a “Fun Run” in which participants could walk or run.
If the participants wanted, they could wear a Halloween costume. The top three participants who received prizes for their costumes were: Jay Larsen, who dressed up as a scarecrow; Wendy Creuier, who was a geisha; and Danielle Johnson, Jesilyn Hohm and Erica Doppenberg, who combined to be the three blind mice. There were also raffle prizes for participants.
“The point was just to get folks out there being active and having fun,” Johnson said.
Over 20 OMA students volunteered their time and efforts for the 5k to make it a fun and exciting event for all.
Sponsors for the race included SDSU’s Office of Diversity Enhancement, Prairie Striders’ Running Club, Daktronics, HyVee, Brookings Dental Clinic, Perkins Restaurant, SDSU’s Office of Information Technology, the Brookings Chamber of Commerce, Powershop Gym, Comfort Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn and Suites, Super 8, Zkota Grille, KFC, Harold’s Photo, State Farm (Skip Webster) and Tailwinds Coffee.
