The SDSU women’s soccer team defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 1-0 on Nov. 14 in the first round of the NCAA College Cup at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium at the University of Minnesota.

Senior Kellyn Farrell scored the winning goal, and her sixth of the season, 13:29 into the game when she stole the ball from the defender and kicked the ball in the goal from 15 yards out.

The Jackrabbits made the most of the 10 shots they took for the game; one goal was all they needed.

Colorado’s goalkeeper Kirstin Radlinkski only made two saves and allowed one goal, as Farrell’s shot went by her, giving the Jackrabbits the lead and the win.

Senior Jackrabbit goalie Nicole Lograsso made a huge impact with 10 saves on the game and recorded her 10th shutout of the season.

Twenty-three minutes into the match, a shot by Colorado’s Amber Bettenhausen bounced off the right goalpost directly into Lograsso’s hands.

It seemed like Colorado was in the Jackrabbits’ side in the second half. The Buffaloes took nine shots in the second period. They out-shot SDSU 22-10.

Colorado’s Bettenhausen and Kelly Butler led the team with four shots each. Gianna DeSaverio had three shots on the game for the Buffaloes, but only one of them was on goal.

The Jackrabbits earned the first victory for the Summit League in the NCAA tournament and made history with SDSU’s first-ever NCAA postseason victory in any sport.

“It’s definitely exciting. The Summit League is a force to be reckoned with, and it’s nice to see the rewards of our hard work,” senior Kelly Larson said.

“It’s been an incredible season. This group of seniors has fought for all these opportunities,” Jackrabbit head coach Lang Wedemeyer said.

The Jackrabbits lost to Minnesota in the second round on Nov. 16.
