After splitting a pair of games against Minnesota-Duluth last weekend, the women’s hockey team will host an eight-game tournament at the Larson Ice Center in Brookings.
Eight women’s hockey teams from Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin and Iowa will travel to SDSU territory Nov. 21 to 23 for the SDSU Fall Classic Hockey Tournament.
The Jacks will go against the University of Wisconsin-Stout in their first game on Nov. 21 at 6:30 p.m. SDSU will meet its next opponent on Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m.
The women’s team that has put plenty of practice hours in looks forward to taking the home ice for the tournament.
“It’s great to be out on the ice, but playing at home is going to be great,” said Christa Friedrich, president of the club team.
The College of St. Scholasica, Rainy River Community College, Minot State, North Dakota State, Iowa State and UW-Stout will make the journey for the tournament, which will feature more than 20 games.
“It’s great to be out on the ice. Hosting this tournament will be a great opportunity for fans to see a great weekend of hockey; plus SDSU students who bring their ID get in free and get free popcorn and pop,” said Friedrich. While the team has been around for five years, the Jacks’ team has seen success in its time.
In 2007, SDSU made the American Collegiate Hockey Association National Tournament in Amherst, Mass., going 2-2 on March 9 to 11.
After the Fall Classic, the Jacks will take on UW-Stout from Dec. 6 to 7 at the Larson Ice Center.
