A student was caught trying to steal books at The University Bookstore on Jan. 15 at noon.
The SDSU Police Department could not be reached for further details.
Derek Peterson, director of The University Bookstore, said theft is not a huge problem at the store. Its inventory shrinkage – which is the loss of products between the purchase from a supplier and the point of sale – is less than one-half of a percent of annual sales.
“That’s a small figure compared to others in the industry,” he said.
Peterson does recommend that students watch their books and backpacks when on campus to guard themselves against theft. He also said students do not need to leave their backpack by the door of the Bookstore, but they must leave them zipped and on their shoulders.
