The SDSU women’s track team competed at the Husker Invitational on Feb. 7. Heather Wollman led the Jacks with a fifth-place finish in the 60-meter dash in a time of 7.70 seconds.
Wollman’s preliminary time in the 60-meter dash of 7.69 was a new personal best for her and improved her to second place all-time at SDSU.
In the 1600-meter relay competition, the SDSU team of Brittany Garner, Stacy Huss, Ashley Storm and Wollman posted the fourth-fastest time in SDSU history with a time of 3 minutes, 53.09 seconds, which was good for sixth place.
Garner set a personal best in the 200-meter prelims with a time of 25.54 seconds; in the finals, she placed fifth in a time of 25.29.
“We’ve been experimenting with her in the pole vault. The sprinting has really been difficult for her. … It kind of detracts from what she is able to do,” SDSU head coach Rod DeHaven said.
SDSU’s Rachael Hakk earned a fifth-place finish in the pentathlon with a score of 3,336.
Ashley Storm and Danielle Burke set top-10 all-time marks at SDSU in the mile run. Storm finished fourth in a time of 5:03.03, good for ninth at SDSU, while Burke finished fifth in 5:03.72, which was good for 10th all-time.
In the 1000-meter run, Burke earned a sixth-place finish in a time of 3:00.78. That time was good for 10th all-time at SDSU.
The SDSU women’s track team fared well at the Bill Hillenbrand Invitational despite having some athletes competing in Nebraska. Tamiko Kopfmann took first to lead the Jacks in the long jump with a distance of 18 feet, 17.75 inches.
Teammate Lora Shearer placed eighth in the long jump with a jump of 17-8.
In the 200-meter dash, Christi Rosenbrook placed sixth with her fastest time of the year in a time of 26.85. Megan Lauseng placed 10th in 27.21, Jill Fritz finished 16th in 27.76 and Jessica Becker took 26th in 28.60.
SDSU’s Kristi Mortenson earned a third-place finish in the pole vault with a vault distance of 11 feet, 3 inches; the jump was also a season best for Mortenson.
In the triple jump, SDSU placed three in the top-nine places. Ashley Lange took the top spot with a distance of 38 feet 8.25 inches, Kopfmann finished sixth in 36-09.75 and Shearer earned ninth in 35-06.75.
Kim Markham scored 2,849 points in the pentathlon for her best score of the season and a second-place finish.
“I think Ashley Lange and Tamiko Kopfmann did a good job in their respective jumping events. People are getting better, especially at this time of the season with the Summit League Championships coming up,” DeHaven said.
SDSU returns to the track on Feb. 12 at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa.
