Jackrabbits take home four first-place finishes at first home meet at Twilight

The Jackrabbit men’s track team had a solid performance by Ben Jasinski in Des Moines, Iowa on April 25 at the Drake Relays. Jasinski earned a fifth- and sixth-place finish in the triple jump and high jump respectively.
His jump of 48 feet, 9.50 inches in the triple jump led the Jacks. He also jumped 6-08.75 in the high jump.
“Ben competed very well this weekend, 45 degrees in a cold rain, for the most part. The team was probably a bit tired from the California trip and home meet, a tough thing for them, and it showed,” SDSU head coach Rod DeHaven said.
Kip Janvirn Invitational
Marshall Kambestad led the Jacks with a third-place finish in the 5000-meter run when he finished in a time of 15 minutes 32.16 seconds on April 24 in Indianola, Iowa.
Nick Schanaman also recorded a third-place finish when he came in at a time of 14.90 in the 110-meter hurdles for the Jackrabbits.
USF Invitational
Sean Burns led SDSU when he placed first in the hammer throw with a throw of 158-02. His throw was good for third all-time at SDSU.
SDSU Twilight
The Jackrabbit men earned several first-place finishes in front of the home crowd at Brookings High School. The Jacks were led by a first place finish in the 100-meter dash by Cole Tucker who came in at a time of 11.2 seconds.
Dom Thielen, a freshman for the Jackrabbits, earned a first-place finish in the 800-meter run when he crossed the finish line in a time of 1:56.97.
“For Dom, he’s been a very pleasant surprise all year. Walked on the team, and having a personal best. He has really excelled this season, and he has been fun to work with and develop,” DeHaven said.
SDSU’s Jake Schneller, who is also a freshman, took first in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:57.00.
Ben Jasinski won the long jump for the Jacks with a leap of 23 feet.
Tyler Schiferl won the pole vault for the Jacks with a distance of 15-7.
Another Jackrabbit, Sam McInerney won the javelin throw competing as unattached with a throw of 165-3.The SDSU men will compete in Sioux Falls at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on May 1 and 2.
