Sara Ackman led the SDSU women’s track team at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on April 24. Ackman’s second place finish in the discus broke the SDSU record when she threw for 171 feet 3 inches.

Ackman’s throw beat the 1998 record of 168-00 set by Nancy Overman.

“For her it has been a long time coming,” SDSU head coach Rod DeHaven said. “Last year, I think she was really pressing – might have missed the record by half an inch. Finally to get over the hump, it’s been a big thing coming for her.”

Kip Janvirn Open

Christi Rosenbrook led the Jackrabbits in Indianola, Iowa when she placed third in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 59.37.

In the 3000-meter run, Amanda Frohling paced the Jacks with a fourth-place finish in a time of 11:42.35.

The 5000-meter run saw Nicole Davis also tally a fourth-place finish for the Jacks in a time of 18:18.54.

USF Invitational

On April 24 the Jackrabbit women were able to take home four first-place finishes in Sioux Falls.

Lora Shearer earned a first-place in the high jump competition with a leap of 5 feet 7 inches for the Jacks.

Brooke Garner earned two first-place finishes for SDSU when she won the discus and shot put competitions. Garner threw for a distance of 126-11 in the discus and 43:00.25 in the shot put.

The final Jackrabbit to earn a first-place finish was Ashley Lange in the triple jump with a leap of 38-04.00.

SDSU Twilight

The Jackrabbit women earned nine first-place finishes in front of a home crowd for the first time in over 10 years at Brookings High School on April 22.

“The important thing for the home meet was having a home meet, having those student athletes being visible to the community an having North Dakota there, so it wasn’t just an intrasquad meet,” DeHaven said. “It’s been a long, long time since being able to compete at home; friends, families and roommates got a chance to see them at home – a really big deal. We were very fortunate for good weather and support we got, I was very happy with the turnout.”

Heather Wollman won the 100-meter dash for SDSU in a time of 13.04 seconds to edge out the University of South Dakota’s Chelsea Rew who came in second in 13.05.

Wollman also grabbed a first-place finish in the 200-meter dash as she clocked in at a time of 24.76.

SDSU’s Megan Lauseng earned a first-place finish in the 400-meter dash when she crossed the finish line in a time of 59.41.

In the 1500-meter run, Danielle Burke led SDSU to another first-place finish clocking in at 4:47.40.

Stacy Huss helped the Jacks secure a victory in the 400-meter hurdles when she finished in 62.50.

SDSU’s Tamiko Kopfmann captured two first-place finishes, one in the long jump with a distance of 5.78m and in the triple jump with a distance of 11.38m.

Sara Ackman won the shot put for the Jacks with a throw of 47 feet 7 inches.

In the hammer throw that took place at Sexauer Field on campus, Michelle Schuch claimed a first place finish for SDSU with a throw of 168-9.

Up next the women will compete at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays on May 1 and 2 in Sioux Falls.
