The SDSU women’s tennis team played five matches in the second Summit League Cluster of the year in Macomb, Ill. The Jacks fell to Western Illinois and Oakland on April 17. They defeated Centenary and lost to Oral Roberts on April 18. April 19 saw a loss to UMKC.

“Bryna didn’t just get victories against those teams, she was pulled off the court when leading in the third set 5-2 against Western Illinois,” SDSU head coach Don Hanson said. “It was a cheap action by Western, but it was within the rules, but not many coaches would have done it, so she really won three as far as I’m concerned.”

WIU’s Kim Lennartsson was leading SDSU’s Caitlin Brannen 3-0 but did not finish in third singles action.

The sixth singles match between McDougall and Holly Davis was not played.
“The team’s performance was wonderful, and we are competitive against all teams in the Summit League,” Hanson said. “The scores don’t indicate the closeness of a lot of those matches, but it helps to point the way to where we need to be. We are very young with four freshmen, one sophomore and two juniors. We had a great season, and all the players are looking forward to next year with a lot of confidence in their improvement.”
The Jacks will finish off their season on May 3 when they host Alumni Day at Hillcrest Park in Brookings. Play starts at noon.
